ABOUT
THE HIVE:
The
Hive is an art salon space created by musician
and artist, Rykarda
Parasol (at right). The honeycomb hideout is most often
used as a recreation room for a collective of local musicians
and artists as a place to congregate and create.
The
salon is sometimes referred to as "Small Factory"
as it is often compared to Warhol's Factory in spirit and
purpose - but with fewer casualties so far. On
most days, the Hive is a hangout, art salon, and studio
space for private use.
The
Hive does not accept work from outside artists at this time.
Viewings are by appointment only. The Hive hosts a handful
of public events during the year
and we welcome the community to visit us at that time as
well. |

The
Hive does non-proft work with the national literary non-profit
group, Debut
Lit whose primary interests are African writers and
literature of the American West. Events with Debut Lit include
visual works by local artists and performers. |

THE
HIVE IN THE NEWS:
June

What’s the Buzz? The bad buzz: The honeybees are disappearing
and we don’t know why. The good buzz: We’ve found
out where the city’s painters, poets, musicians, and artistically
inclined are congregating.
After
watching an Andy Warhol doc, Rykarda Parasol got a bee in her
bonnet and created a community space for fellow artistes, and
thus The Hive, a private salon in Russian Hill, was hatched.
Enlisting
a few drones, the chanteuse transformed the former noodle factory
into a honey pot of a parlor. There’s plenty of blank wall
space in the back and room up front for readings, music sets,
and sleep over parties. The vibe: homespun and come-as-you-are.
Right
now, the gallery is invitation only with no regular hours, but
stay tuned for art potluck nights, movie screenings, and galas.
There’s
no address listed. Just look for a gray building on the corner
of Hyde and Pacific.
And if you don’t like it, buzz off.
I
hear a subtle buzz growing and I think it's coming from The Hive,
a private arts space tucked away on Pacific Street off Hyde. Fashioned
after a sort of "mini Factory" ala the Andy Warhol days,
local songwriter and painter Rykarda Parasol has created the Hive
with the vision of attracting local artists, musicians, writers
and other creatives interested in forming a collaborative arts
salon. - Yelp.com
